Anti-Abortion Club Barred from UMSU Affiliation

featuredHomeNews

Anti-abortion group Hope for Life attempted in August to affiliate with UMSU as a club, but was denied. The decision was made by the UMSU Clubs and Societies Committee at a meeting on 13 August who determined that the proposed club’s activities had the potential to overlap with those of the UMSU Women’s Department, although the Women’s Department does not currently take an anti-abortion position and UMSU has traditionally taken a firmly pro-choice position.

Posters for an anti-abortion protest, named March for the Babies, were seen being put up within the UMSU building in late September by the same individuals who attempted to affiliate Hope for Life.
