Left alone with red bangles.
No such place left,
to call home.
Father sat with gloomy eyes,
did he know my fate, my life consumed?
Oceans sit between my home and me
All alone.
Forced to leave,
to deserve existence.
The boat sailed slowly, like the grief,
it was serving.
An abundance of tears yet,
kids to raise, money to earn.
For my marriage to a man,
As foreign to me as the skies of freedom.
The water changed its colour,
As maturity slammed towards me.
Its tides choking,
my teenage body.
Foreigner i became, even my family, my family?
NO! Not mine!
It was simple, my mother explained,
to be a woman is to fit into every role,
is to never make yourself useless!
A man i married,
the chains it put on me,
the kids are his, not mine to own.
i had no identity.
Simply a wife to serve his family.
Someone to blame, to resent.
Why was i born a woman?
Did I not deserve azadi?
