The meeting will consider proposed amendments to the club constitution and will hold elections for committee positions. Members attending may nominate for these positions and vote on all business before the meeting.

Business of the meeting

  • Amendments to clause 5 of the club constitution, the insertion of a new clause 6, consequential renumbering of the clauses that follow, and an amendment to the clause presently numbered 8(a)(i). The proposed amendments have been approved by the UMSU Clubs & Societies Officer and Coordinator and are attached in full.
  • Ratification of the club constitution as amended.
  • Elections (see below).

One clause we want you to look at before you come

Proposed clause 6 creates appointed Director roles that sit outside the elected committee. Sub-clause 6(g) provides that a Director's appointment may be revoked at any time by resolution of the committee. That means revocation without cause, without a set process and without an appeal.

The Clubs & Societies Department has approved this sub-clause on the express basis that the members consider it and accept it, and has advised that it will not involve itself in any dispute that arises from it. There will be a discussion item on this at the meeting, before any vote is taken. Please read clause 6 in the attached document and come with your questions.

Notification of election

Elections will be held at this meeting for the following positions:

  • Vice-President (Operations)
  • Vice-President (Technical)
  • General representative (two positions)

The two Vice-President positions are created by the proposed amendment to clause 5. Elections for those two positions will proceed only if that amendment is passed at the meeting. The election of the two general representatives will proceed regardless.
