Join us for a behind the scenes tour of the Australian Synchrotron, including:

  • 100 MeV Linear Accelerator: Get up close and personal with the technology behind particle acceleration.

  • 3 GeV Booster Ring: See where particles are boosted to high energies before entering the storage ring.

  • Storage Ring: Discover how particles are kept at high speeds for various experiments.

  • Insertion Devices and Beamlines: Inspect these critical components that generate the synchrotron light used in cutting-edge research.

Please note: The Australian Synchrotron is not an accessible venue and requires the usage of stairs

Operated by ANSTO, the Australian Synchrotron is one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most advanced scientific research facilities. Located in Clayton, Victoria, this stadium-sized particle accelerator uses a 3-gigaelectronvolt (3 GeV) storage ring to accelerate electrons to near the speed of light. This process generates synchrotron light, which are intense beams of X-ray and infrared radiation over a million times brighter than sunlight.

Channeled into highly specialized beamlines, this ultra-bright light enables scientists to examine the atomic and molecular structure of materials with exceptional detail and speed. The facility plays a vital role in driving high-impact research and technological development across advanced manufacturing, drug discovery, energy storage, and environmental science.
