Mornington Winery Trip

3/09/2026–3/09/2026
9:15 AM–5:00 PM
Wine Society

Our semesterly vineyard trip is upon us, which means that we're piling into a bus and heading to the Mornington Peninsula for the day!

Two wineries are on the itinerary for this trip: Moorooduc Estate and Paradigm Hill. See below for more information about the wineries.

We will depart from the University of Melbourne campus on a hired bus strictly at 9:15am on Thursday the 3rd of September, and will be back on campus around 5:00pm. Our meeting location will be The Spot foyer (not the FBE building!). Tickets are available for Wine Society members from 17/08 and for non-members on 20/08.

Your ticket is all-inclusive, including transport to and from the wineries, all tasting and vineyard experiences, and food platters at the second venue. If you are unable to make the event, let us know and we may be able to offer you a refund and make your ticket available to someone else.

Moorooduc Estate
There aren't many wineries left on the Peninsula still doing things the old way, and Moorooduc is one of them. Established by Richard and Jill McIntyre back in 1982, it's one of the original vineyards in the region, with Richard, a former surgeon turned winemaker, pioneering wild yeast ferments here since the mid 90s. The estate holds five-star status in Halliday's Australian Wine Companion and leans into minimal intervention winemaking with a nod to Burgundian technique. Expect an intimate, small group tasting through their chardonnay, pinot noir and shiraz, and if you're lucky, a visit from Reg the resident peacock.

Paradigm Hill
From Moorooduc we'll head down to Paradigm Hill, a boutique, family run vineyard started by Ruth and George Mihaly after they left careers in catering and medical research to chase a decades long dream of making wine. We'll walk the vineyard and winery, taste from barrel, then move to bottles, including a bracket of five wines from "The Pinot Project," a collaboration between five Peninsula wineries (Paradigm Hill, Eldridge Estate, Paringa Estate, Robinson Vineyard and Moorooduc Estate) exploring terroir. The same MV6 clone fruit was picked at matching ripeness from each site and made by one winemaker, Richard McIntyre, in identical oak. We'll be tasting the 2019 vintage.
