Ritual Objects is a clay workshop that explores the small rituals we create with everyday objects in our homes.
In this workshop you will be encouraged to create your own small ritual object out of clay and reflect on the intimacy we share with different materials in our everyday. The toothbrush holder, jewellery dish, candelabra, salt dish, coffee mug, incense burner, or soap dish are some examples of small objects that ground us in our daily tasks and routines.
Clay is a sensory material and in working with your hands, this time invites you to think in an embodied way about the ways we relate to objects, our homes and ourselves.

Claire de Carteret is a ceramic artist with a background in curating based in Brunswick, Naarm.
From a young age she has been drawn to decorative art and the sensory experience of materials. This developed into an interest in craft histories and embodied knowledge, which influences both her ceramic and curatorial projects.
She began working with clay at UNSW Art and Design in 2016, and since developed skills across the various ceramic techniques of slip casting, hand-building and wheel throwing. In 2023 she graduated with first class honours in Fine Art (ceramics) from Sydney College of the Arts.
In 2024 she was awarded the Westspace Artist Studio in Collingwood Yards with Aarti Jadu to develop the experimental project Attending To. In this project, Aarti and Claire converged their sound and ceramic practices to develop an interactive work ‘Between You and I’ that they presented at the 2025 Melbourne Art Fair.
Claire teaches beginner classes and facilitates workshops in hand-building and wheel throwing in Naarm. Her teaching style is fluid and intuitive, guided by each student’s interests and abilities.
Please Note: aprons will be provided, but we encourage you to bring an oversized t-shirt / a small towel you'd be okay to get dirty. Don't stress if you don't have either of these though.
