Contrary to popular belief, the language of poetry need not be lofty, stately or elevated. Contemporary poetry is not classical opera - there is no requirement to pitch high, “wax poetic” or adopt “purple prose”. In this workshop we will be activating ordinary voices: voices that you are personally familiar with. We will be tapping into everyday garden-variety speech such as conversations, vernaculars, colloquialisms and languages other than English, writing poems in voices drawn from our own unique lived experiences.
Free workshop hosted by poet, writer and researcher Grace Yee. All levels of writing experience welcome.
