We've heard you loud and clear! Over 1000 of you signed a petition for a General Meeting about the uni's involvement in weapons research. That's huge! While we can't do everything the petition asks for via a General Meeting, we're 100% committed to making your voices heard where it counts.

Given our long-standing stance against militarism and human rights abuses (including our position on Palestine since 2009), we're proposing to petition the University Council to ditch their investments in weapons research and manufacturing. This way, we can use our official status to make the uni respond to what so many of you care about.

Come join us for a Mass Student Meeting to kick off this petition!

When: Thursday 15 August, 4pm

Where: TBC

Why petition the University Council?

Here's the deal, under the uni's rules, they HAVE to respond to a petition from a recognised student org like us. We'll call on them to take real action on their investments and research connections.

Sign the Petition Here

How's this different from a UMSU General Meeting?

UMSU operates on its own, separate from the uni. While a General Meeting can change things within UMSU, it can't force the uni to do anything. But as a recognised student org, we CAN petition the University Council and make them address and respond to what matters to students.

Let's use this chance to push for ethical investments and make some noise! Big thanks to everyone who signed the petition and keeps supporting this cause. Let's show UoM what unified student power looks like!

UMSU President
