There’s a New Prez in Town!

Hi! My name is Lushy and I’m your 2026 UMSU President! I am so excited to represent the student voice at UniMelb and look forward to seeing you all at our events this year! I’m a biomedicine student who grew up in Melbourne! My family is originally from Zambia and enjoy all sorts of things like soccer, music (shout out to my fellow pianists) and camping!

This year I’m focusing on 3 main things: student representation, accessibility and student safety! The student union is FOR YOU. If you need something, I promise you we’ve got it or can find the right people to get you there!

Need period products? UMSU Women’s is here to help!

Need free groceries? UMSU Welfare has got you at Union mart!

Need free legal advice? We have an Advocacy & Legal team ready to help!

Don’t even get me started on the huge amount of clubs we have, or our various autonomous spaces located in Building 168!

My door is always open – Level 2 of Building 168! Or message me on Instagram or email: @umsu_president & president@union.unimelb.edu.au

See you on one of our many campuses! 💜

Students Council: UMSU Statement on the Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion

The violence at Bondi was a devastating tragedy, and our thoughts remain with everyone affected, and the families of the lives lost. Moments like this should bring people together, not apart.

Antisemitism should be taken seriously wherever it appears. Jewish students deserve to feel safe on campus and in society.

The attack was carried out by 2 individuals radicalised by ISIS. We reject the attempt to politically weaponise the tragic Bondi terror attack to repress the Palestine movement.

UMSU recognises the proposed Royal Commission into Antisemitism & Social Cohesion is a cynical attempt to conflate pro-Palestine sentiment with Antisemitism. We oppose the implementation of Jillian Segal’s recommendations, as they risk restricting free speech on campus.

UMSU is committed to defending free speech and the right to protest on campus, including any attempts to undermine the independence of our student union.

UMSU opposes and resists all forms of racism including antisemitism and Islamophobia.

Students’ council has committed to reviewing the Royal Commission’s findings and recommendations when released.

We will continue advocating for a campus that protects both student safety and the right to protest.

Shout Outs!

To all the office bearers. The hours you’ve put in before the students even get here doesn’t go unnoticed. You’re all incredible. Here’s to the impactful year we have ahead!
