Occasional Writing is a three-hour expansive writing workshop facilitated by Rachel Schenberg and Toyah Webb. The workshop encourages participants to collaborate on a series of writing exercises generated from short readings and prompts, organized around ideas of ‘miswriting’ (misremembering, mishearing, misreading, misappropriating, mistranslating, misplacing, misunderstanding).

The workshop is open to anyone curious about reading and writing as a mode of play. No prior experience is necessary.

WHERE: Meet at the Arts Lab, Level 1, Arts and Cultural Building, Monash Road, Building 159 (MAP), next to the George Paton Gallery.

Born in Tāmaki Makaurau, Toyah Webb (she/her) is a writer and educator living on unceded Wangal Land. She is currently a PhD candidate at UNSW Art and Design, and teaches creative writing at the University of Sydney. She is the host of palimpsest, a reading group dedicated to literature from antiquity, and the editor of postal service, a quarterly print newsletter for writing about history, labour, materiality, and margins. Her recent writing can be found in Runway Journal, Cordite, Overland, and Debris Magazine. 

Rachel Schenberg (she/her) is an artist and writer currently based on Gadigal land. She has written essays, poems, and criticism for Australian publications including un Magazine, Australian Poetry Journal, Cordite, and PEBBLE, and for international artist magazines such as How to Become (Paris) and HEADS (North Carolina). "Certainly (certainly)", a book of poems co-written with Jordi Infeld, was published by no more poetry in 2023. She co-runs the poetry reading and film screening series && with Mitchel Cumming, and works as a sessional academic teaching Art Writing and Publishing. She is a PhD candidate at UNSW Art and Design.
