Staff Strike
Some staff at the University of Melbourne went on strike on Wednesday 9 May to protest the University regarding its stance on workplace agreements. Instead of going to work, the National Tertiary Education Union joined other unionists and workers for the ‘Change the Rules’ rally in the Melbourne CBD, which turned out up to 100,000 people.

VCA Vacancy

UMSU AGM
The University of Melbourne Student Union held it’s annual general meeting (AGM) on 1 May. The AGM, which served to approve office bearer mid-year reports, went for only three minutes.

The Hunting Ground
The UMSU women’s department held a screening of US university sexual assault documentary The Hunting Ground on 2 May, followed by a panel discussion with Nina Funnell, Kate Crossin, Molly Willmott, Kareena Dhaliwal and Rose-Monet Wilson Scott. The panelists spoke about the failure of universities to adequately address sexual assault.

Locked Out Of A Lock-Up
Student media was locked out of the federal budget media lock-up, which took place on 8 May. Farrago spoke to the shadow government and the mainstream media about the government’s decision.
