has something ever been so deeply embedded in your bones
that to get it out, you'd have to crawl out of your own skin?
and even skinless, bare and unbecoming,
you'd still feel the echo of it, low and humming.
for it is not on the surface, easy to shrug.
no, it has soaked into the marrow like a stain on a rug.
i believe distance cannot be seen as a cure.
some things aren’t meant to be waited out, endured.
truthfully, how do you outwalk your own skeleton,
how do you leave behind the very thing you’re built upon?
so, you carry it.
you climb.
the weight remains the same, you just grow over time.
let the air grow thin, and thinner still,
let something in you harden against your will.
become reformed, become changed,
not to get it out, but to become rearranged
into something that catches light instead of shade,
into the kind of dark where stars are made,
until your marrow learns to gleam,
like constellations stitched beneath the skin.
