Today at 9am, University of Melbourne striking staff members joined other unionists and workers for the ‘Change the Rules’ rally in the Melbourne CBD, which turned out up to 100,000 people. Change the Rules is an Australian Council of Trade Unions campaign that is lobbying for better working conditions for Australians.

The University of Melbourne staff strike was the result of 16 months of negotiations between the University and the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) for an updated enterprise bargaining agreement. The NTEU’s conditions have not yet been accepted by the University.
