Established in 1887, Tiegs Museum is Australia's oldest university museum of zoology. The collection, accumulated over 120 years, consists of a comprehensive range of animal specimens — including skulls of marsupials and many others of increasing significance as species become endangered. The collection was contributed by the first Professor of the department, Sir Walter Baldwin Spencer and the museum was later substantially improved by Professor O. W. Tiegs. These specimens play a crucial part in undergraduate teaching in vertebrate and invertebrate zoology.
